Tour Inti Raymi Calera
Experience the Magic of the Inti Raymi Celebration in the Calera, Cotacachi Ecuador
Live an unforgettable experience by joining one of the most iconic celebrations of the Andean world: the Inti Raymi, an ancestral festival of the Kichwa people in honor of Taita Inti (Father Sun) and Pachamama (Mother Earth). This spiritual ceremony takes place during the June solstice and marks the beginning of a new agricultural, spiritual, and communal cycle. The tour inti raymi calera offers a unique opportunity to be part of this sacred time of renewal, gratitude, and collective strength, where music, traditional food, rituals, and dance merge with ancient Andean cosmovision.
Day 1: Cultural immersion – June 22
On June 22, visitors are welcomed in the Kichwa community of La Calera by local families. The evening begins with a homemade dinner and continues with a community dance that precedes one of the most powerful rituals: the collective spiritual bath. This night ceremony, attended by over 400 people, is an act of purification and preparation for the sacred days ahead.
Day 2: Excursion or visit (Cuicocha, Mojanda or nearby communities) – June 23
June 23 is dedicated to nature and connection. After a traditional breakfast, participants visit the stunning Cuicocha Lagoon and hike for around four hours around its turquoise waters. Afterwards, the group explores Cotacachi, famous for its leather shops, before returning to La Calera for a peaceful evening with the host family.
Day 3: Participation in the Inti Raymi dance – June 24
June 24 is the highlight of the tour inti raymi calera. From early morning, participants join the Inti Raymi dance—a vibrant expression of cultural resistance and identity. In Cotacachi, the community gathers for the symbolic «toma de la plaza» and a traditional shared meal called Pampa Mesa, where everyone eats together in unity and reciprocity.
Day 4: End of the stay – June 25
Finally, on June 25, after breakfast, guests say farewell. There is also an option to extend the tour inti raymi calera one more day and continue celebrating with the community. This is more than a tour—it’s a journey of reconnection with ancestral wisdom, the spirit of the Andes, and the warmth of its people.
OPTION: Opportunity to participate in the second day of the plaza takeover in Cotacachi. (Additional day and night supplement available upon request).
