Family Accommodations Calera
Experience Authenticity with Family Accommodations Calera
La Calera is one of the largest and most vibrant communities in Cotacachi, a city made up of 45 culturally rich communities in the highland and lowland areas. As part of a responsible tourism effort, 17 local families have transformed parts of their homes into welcoming spaces for visitors through a proyect known as Family Accommodations Calera.
This isn’t your typical hotel stay—Family Accommodations Calera offers a warm, immersive experience where guests can truly connect with the Kichwa culture. Through Quichua Tours, you’re not just booking a bed; you’re stepping into the rhythm of daily life. Share stories with your host family, learn about ancestral customs, and savor traditional meals made from local ingredients.
Each family home follows biosecurity protocols to ensure the safety of both guests and hosts, making your visit not only enriching but also safe. The goal is simple: to build bridges between travelers and the community, where every visit becomes a shared cultural exchange.
Want to explore more? We offer optional transportation from Otavalo to La Calera or San Martín, which includes visits to two inspiring women’s workshop—Sumak Muyo, known for intricate tagua necklaces, and Alli Maki, specialists in handcrafted embroidery. The experience also includes a traditional dinner, breakfast, and a personalized woven bracelet featuring your name—an unforgettable keepsake of your time here.
Our local families will become your family from the very start of the tour. Don’t worry—language isn’t a barrier to connecting. You can use an online translator, and many families know basic English words that can help you communicate. Take this opportunity to share, reconnect, and feel right at home.
Reconnect with nature, culture, and community. Book your stay with Quichua Tours and be part of the living story of Cotacachi through Family Accommodations Calera. Reservations should be made at least two days in advance to ensure availability. Taxes not included.
