During the Cooking Class and Llama Hiking Tour, we’ll visit important local such as the sacred site of TUNDUN, a garden of medicinal plants, and we’ll engage with talented women artisans who specialize in embroidery and handmade seed necklaces. These moments offer a genuine glimpse into the cultural soul of the community.

Each participant will be assigned their own llama to walk alongside. Children under 8 can ride specially trained llamas for short distances. The hike lasts about 2–3 hours and is designed to be a fun and enriching experience for all ages.

After our trek, the second part of our Cooking Class and Llama Hiking Tour begins. We’ll head to the home of a local family where you’ll learn step-by-step how to prepare traditional Ecuadorian dishes such as quimbolitos, humitas, wawas de pan, and empanadas de viento. Everything is prepared using a traditional wood-fired oven and served with cola morada or uvilla juice.

In this Tour, ingredients are selected with care for freshness and authenticity. Your host family will guide you through the cooking process with warmth and pride, and you’ll have the opportunity to get hands-on with every dish. At the end, we’ll sit down together and enjoy a delicious meal that you’ve helped prepare — a flavorful ending to a day full of culture, nature, and community.

📝 Note: For the cooking class, you can choose one or two dishes to prepare from the list. Children aged 10 and up pay full price.

8:00 AM – Welcome to the Community and Meet Our Llamas

Your experience begins with a warm welcome in the charming community of La Calera, where you'll be greeted by our friendly llamas. After a brief introduction and bonding time with these gentle companions, we’ll set off on a scenic hike through the community. Along the way, you'll explore the natural and cultural treasures of the area—such as the sacred Tun Tun site and the medicinal plant garden—and meet local women artisans who specialize in traditional embroidery and seed jewelry-making.

Each guest will have their own llama to walk alongside during the journey. Children under 8 can enjoy short, guided rides on specially trained llamas. The walk is gentle and perfect for all ages, lasting approximately 2 to 3 hours.

11:00 AM – Cooking Class: A Taste of Tradition

After our walk, we’ll head to the home of a local host family for a hands-on Cooking Class and Llama Hiking Tour experience. Here, you’ll learn how to prepare some of the most beloved traditional dishes from scratch, including quimbolitos, humitas, wawas de pan baked in a wood-fired oven, and delicious empanadas de viento. These are all accompanied by a refreshing drink made from cola morada or uvilla (golden berry juice).
